Living and RVing with a Barnyard Engineer

You’ll likely relate, if not sympathize, if your partner is a retired engineer. You know the type that still keeps a schedule year round, builds a working trebuchet to keep squirrels from the birdfeeder, and everything in the house is optimized so that it works better.

The only picture that you’ll have to visualize is a Boomer biting her tongue;

There are no recipes in this article with sunsets as background;

There is no pressure to pin a picture;

And best of all, there is no annoying popup to make sure you sign up for further annoyances, I mean emails.

This is an old-fashioned blog by a retiree that all of you can relate to because it’s about the changed face of RVing and our security.

A few years ago we bought a used trailer so that we could travel.  While in our quest to find the perfect trailer we saw more than one RV that had been broken into and we were surprised at how flimsy the doors are. Our first thought was safety; why not stay at a B&B or hotel because trailer doors make theft so easy.  How many people do you know that have had their trailer broken into? We had neighbours who parked their winterized RV in their backyard who found people living in it. We also know people whose trailer was trashed and their battery stolen, the thieves were downright rude.  Thieves are rarely polite; they’ll likely take a screwdriver or pry bar to your flimsy RV door and won’t carry the correct size of wrench to steal your battery in your home away from home.

So, how do you stay safe out there while parked?  One can’t wrap barbed wire around their trailer, and you can’t drill holes into your siding, so what do you do?  Well, the enginerd kicked in and we solved this so that we could safely park our trailer wherever we wanted. Now it’s so much for retirement, we’re full on into production to keep trailer, RV, and camper doors from being jimmied open and you can park in peace.
